Russia's new commander in Ukraine war

Reuters wrote, this army officer previously led the Guards Division in the Chechnya War in 2004. In 2017, he participated in the Syrian war and won a medal.

This week, Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed a new battlefield commander amid the sacking of multiple commanders in two of Russia’s five military regions in Ukraine.

According to the Guardian’s report, this general, who opened fire on pro-democracy protests in 1990, was in command of Russian forces in southern Ukraine.

Surovykin, a former head of the Russian Aerospace Forces, was appointed head of the southern region this summer.
