Head of Zaporizhia nuclear field seized by Russia

Both Russia and Ukraine have blamed each other for the shelling of the Zaporizhia power plant.

There have been repeated warnings from the international arena that the bombardment could cause major damage to the nuclear field and spread radiation across Europe.

Murasov is the nuclear power sector’s “head of nuclear and radiation protection and has very important responsibilities in this regard,” Enerhoatm president Petro Kotin said in a statement on Saturday.

“The detention of Murashov jeopardizes the safety of the operation of Ukraine and Europe’s largest nuclear power plant,” he said.

He called it ‘nuclear terrorism’ by Russia and urged the International Atomic Energy Agency to urgently demand Murashov’s release.
