History of Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board

With the establishment of the Kolkata Aliya Madrasa in the 1780, the Alia Section Madrasa education system officially started in the subcontinent of India. Gradually, madrasah education began to expand in different areas including undivided Bengal, Bihar, Assam and Tripura. After the emergence of independent and sovereign Bangladesh in 1971, an initiative was taken to make madrassa education age-appropriate and work-oriented under the direct guidance of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

It was during this period that the Bangladesh Madrasa Education Board was formed and its activities started on the Government Madrasah-e-Aliya campus in Dhaka. Bangladesh Madrasa Education Board restructured by issuing Madrasa Education Ordinance in the 1978. As a result, on June, 1979, the Bangladesh Madrasa Education Board transformed into an autonomous institution. Since then, the Bangladesh Madrasa Education Board is conducting its activities successfully.
